Lift Foils is widely credited with pioneering the modern production eFoil in Puerto Rico around 2018. Seven years on, the company remains the reference point against which the entire category is measured.
The brand’s story is closely tied to the evolution of the sport itself. Lift emerged at a moment when key technologies — brushless motors, lithium battery density, and carbon foil engineering — had only recently converged into something commercially viable. Every major competitor since has, in one way or another, followed the framework Lift helped define.
The LIFT4, the company’s current flagship, represents the most refined expression of that lineage: quieter, lighter, longer-lasting, and built with a level of craftsmanship closer to high-end marine engineering than conventional watersports manufacturing.
A short story about us
Headquartered in Puerto Rico, Lift Foils manufactures its boards in-house — a rarity in the category. The workshop employs around ninety people, many of whom come from high-end surfboard shaping and racing yacht backgrounds.
Quality control is notably strict: each foil is hand-balanced, each board is tested before shipping, and each controller is individually paired and logged.
The result is a brand that feels closer to a precision workshop than a mass manufacturer.

The current LIFT4 platform uses a 4.5 kWh quick-swap lithium battery with full sealing and cell-level monitoring, designed for long-cycle durability.
The motor is a third-generation brushless system, engineered for efficiency and low noise under load.
The wing ecosystem is one of the most extensive in the category, with multiple configurations ranging from stable cruise setups to high-agility carving wings.
On the water, the LIFT4 is exceptionally stable.
Top speed is limited to around 30 mph, but the more relevant metric is sustained cruise performance: approximately 22–24 mph for up to 90 minutes depending on conditions and rider weight.
Pitch response is precise and predictable, translating small inputs into smooth altitude changes. The carving feel is especially strong with the Surf wing configuration.

The carbon layup is dense and consistent. The deck pad prioritises durability over softness. All structural hardware is marine-grade titanium.
After extended saltwater use, the system shows minimal wear at key stress points, particularly around the foil-to-fuselage interface.

As noted in our previous testing, the LIFT4 is a board that quickly disappears beneath the rider.
There is no instability to manage, no unpredictable behaviour to correct. It simply responds.
